The Yorkshire Terrier.
Is it the Right Breed for you?
- Maintenance: Grooming and brushing should be performed weekly to keep the dog's coat in good shape. Professional groomers can be sought after for assistance. Occasional trimming or shaping needed. Yorkies love the water. They have been known to jump in swimming pools for a quick dip with their owner. They also don’t mind getting a bath.
- Hypoallergenic: This breed has minimal shedding. Yorkies are a great choice for people who have allergies.
- Moderately Easy Training: Training won't require too much attention and effort. Yorkies are highly intelligent and often act to please their owners. They are also known as a true lap dog as they love spending time with you.
- Great Watchdog Ability: This dog will bark and alert its owners when an intruder is near.
- Medium Adaptability: It is well-suited for apartment living and does not need a yard.
- Slightly Active: Not much exercise is required to keep this dog in shape, but they love to run and play.
- Children: Yorkies are a fun and loving breed, but they are also fragile. Special attention might be needed around small children to assure rough play does not harm the dog. This breed is also not shy toward other pets and often loves to play.
- Temperament: This dog has what is called a very strong Napoleon complex. They believe they are 10 feet tall and are as strong as a bull. The Yorkies temperament will resemble how the dog is treated. The more attention and love you give your Yorkie the more you will receive.
